Here at InTouch Productions, we feel a special bond with the shoemaker who had so much business that he could not repair his own children’s shoes. Not that we don’t take care of our kids. We do. Don’t call social services just yet.
We relate to the tradesman of old in this way: We’re so busy creating content for clients that we haven’t had time to create content for ourselves.
Wait, who are we kidding? “We” are…uhhh…”We” is really just me. Steve Webb. I don’t have a staff. All the content created around here is 99.9% just me. The 0.1% is created by subcontractors when I need to hire a different voice for a client’s project, like I did recently for a series of podcasts we I produced for Synopsis, Inc.
Not having a staff to whom I delegate the various jobs in producing great audio and video of course means that I am often the copy writer, audio producer, video producer, voice talent, on-camera talent, audio editor, video editor, technical geek, and…well, you get the picture.
There are pros and cons when you’re a one-man operation.
Pros:
- Clients get direct access to the person who will be completing their project.
- Quality control is in the hands of the owner.
- Office politics are not a problem.
Cons:
- There are only twenty-four hours a day, so I can only do what I can do in that time, discounting time for eating and sleeping.
- There is often no extra time to create content “just for fun”.
- This blog is more often than not, neglected.
I’ll try to be more consistent with creating content for this blog. Go ahead and subscribe. One thing’s for sure…I won’t contribute to the guilt you sometimes feel when you can’t keep up with guys who create more content than you have time for.
